News Blog Category - News Marion Community Schools’ assistant superintendent recently was honored by the Indiana Association of School Business Officials, for the second time in three years.

Dr. Robert Schultz, assistant superintendent for business affairs at MCS, was named the IASBO School Business Official of the Year for Region 5, the district in which Grant County lies.

Each year, IASBO recognizes a school business official in each of its 10 regions with this award. We are proud of this recognition of MCS and of Dr. Schultz, who brings a wealth of experience to his role at Marion Community Schools.

But Schultz emphasized that this award recognizes not only his success, but the success of his entire department.

“Awards like this are really multi-person awards. I have been really blessed to work with an outstanding group of people here in the MCS Business Office,” he said. “I feel fortunate to have come to Marion, because there are a lot of people paying attention to the details to make things work well, and everyone is committed to seeing our children succeed.”

Through his diverse career in education, including time as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and post-secondary educator, along with his experience as a researcher and an advisor for school districts across the state, he has developed a wide and well-informed perspective on education and school finance. This perspective and range of experience makes him an invaluable part of our team here at Marion Community Schools, as we navigate the volatile world of school funding in Indiana.

But perhaps even more important, he is a sincere and caring person who is committed to our staff and schools, and the children and community we serve. He is invested in the success of others and is a valued part of our team.

“IASBO is a wonderful organization that is a great resource for schools,” Dr. Schultz said. “I have found that school business managers in Indiana in general are a generous group who share information and best practices. You develop a circle of people you trust, and then utilize their help to guide your work.”

Across his career, Dr. Schultz has found success in various aspects of teaching and administration. In fact, this is the fourth time he has been recognized with a yearly award, and has been recognized in three different roles. Earlier in his career, he was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Eastbrook Community Schools. He was subsequently recognized as the Superintendent of the Year at Tipton Community Schools, this time by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents.

Marion Community Schools is proud of Dr. Schultz and his accomplishments and grateful to him for his service here.

Dr. Schultz and the other IASBO honorees were celebrated at the organization’s annual awards banquet.
